FAQ

Common questions about Teams Phone.

What does a Microsoft Teams Phone deployment consultant do?

A Microsoft Teams Phone deployment consultant designs and rolls out Teams as the customer's primary phone system — replacing or coexisting with a legacy PBX. Scope: carrier path selection (Direct Routing, Operator Connect, or Microsoft Calling Plans), number porting and DID provisioning, auto-attendants and call queues, voicemail-to-Exchange Online integration, dynamic emergency calling (e911) configuration with Location Information Service, Microsoft Teams Rooms integration where applicable, caller-ID and outbound presentation, hybrid Direct Routing for legacy PBX coexistence, Survivable Branch Appliance for remote-site resilience, end-user training, and PBX retirement plan. Pilot deployment first, then waved rollout, then two weeks of hypercare with on-call carrier escalation.

Direct Routing or Operator Connect — how do I pick?

Direct Routing wins when you already have a carrier you like, complex routing requirements, or hybrid PBX coexistence needs. Operator Connect wins for simplicity — Microsoft-certified carriers handle the SBC and PSTN delivery; you provision through the Teams admin center. Microsoft Calling Plans are the easiest path for net-new customers in supported countries with no special requirements. The right answer comes out of the carrier-and-PBX assessment, not a rate card.

Can we keep our existing phone numbers when moving to Teams?

Yes. We coordinate the LOA, port request, and porting window with the losing and gaining carriers. Most US ports complete in 2–4 weeks; some carriers take 6+. Numbers stay live throughout — we plan the cutover so calls don't drop on port-completion day.

Does Teams Phone handle e911?

Yes. Teams Phone supports dynamic emergency calling with policy-based location reporting (Location Information Service / LIS). We configure address validation, network site mapping, and on-network / off-network policies. e911 testing is a required deliverable on every Teams Phone engagement.

What about call recording and contact-center features?

Teams Phone supports compliance recording via certified third parties (NICE, Verint, AudioCodes SmartTAP, etc.). Contact-center scenarios route through Microsoft Dynamics 365 Contact Center or certified third-party CCaaS partners. Both are scoped explicitly when in scope — they're not free Teams features.
